Business web page redirector instructions

Businesses that have an existing web page on the Internet, and would like to have a link from the business listing on the web site, need to do the following:

Type the information shown below in notepad, changing the items shown in red to suit your particular website.

<meta HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="5; URL=">
<title>Redirector to My Web Page</title>
Please click <a href="">here</a> to go to
My Web Page.

(You may wish to "cut & paste" the above text into notepad.)

Save the file with the name index.html to a blank, formated 1.44 MB floppy diskette. Do not use capital letters, or change the name in any other manner. It is especially important that you do not save the file with the default ".txt" extension.

To verify that you have completed the above steps correctly, click on the "My Computer" icon, and select the "3½ Floppy". This should bring up a single icon labeled index.html or index, depending on how your system is configured. The displayed icon should be the one used for your default web browser (Netscape Communicator is used in this example.) If you see an icon of a notepad, you most likely named the file with an extension of ".txt".

Double clicking on this icon should start your default web browser, and load the redirector page. After a few seconds, your browser should be redirected to your business site. If it does not, go back and correct the error.

After verifying that the redirector is working, label the floppy with your company name and bring it to the Dawson city office.
